This project involved the refurbishment of eight hydraulic passenger lifts for the NHS trust at King Georges Hospital. These lifts not only needed major works to bring them into working order but also so they meet the DDA (disability discrimination act).

An important factor in Acre Lifts winning the contract was a presentation given to the NHS King Georges Trust and Sodexo (the facilities management company that were overseeing our works on site) by our Managing Director David Bishop and construction manager John Pearcey. This meeting established a good working relationship which was maintained during the entirety of the project.

As is apparent from this e-mail that we received from Ray Gilbert the Sodexo manager on site:

“John, please extend thanks to everyone concerned for a job well done during the recent refurbishment . The project went well without too much hassle and came in on time and within budget so the Trust were very pleased with that and the end result . The lads worked well as a team to achieve time scales and just got on with the job and caused virtually no grief, it was a pleasure having them on site which is more than I can say for contractors on other projects I have on the go . So well done to everyone.

Two Very Prestige Private Residential Properties At 38 & 40 Avenue Road, St Johns Wood, London

This project involved the installation of two bespoke “Car” lifts to service underground parking, which are the first of their type to be installed within the United Kingdom.

Blenheim House Construction the main contractors on this multi million pound project to build two high status and spec houses in a desirable area, wanted to not only have a car lift that made the most of the space available, but to have a car lift that represented the style and luxury of the entire build of both properties.

To help them achieve this, they in turn employed Hoare Lee (An award-winning firm of consulting engineers) as the main consultants, together with Global Lift Equipment who supplied the bespoke lift, designed these unique lifts.

Once the design was finalised the contract was then tendered and awarded to Acre Lifts and the work of installing these unique lifts commenced and its fair to say that there were quite a few engineering issues to overcome & resolve as there always are with bespoke prototype products which tested our skills and knowledge.

Acre Lifts were and remain very proud to have been involved with this project, which have been both demanding & challenging, but also reflecting Acre Lifts’ abilities to manage and install not just bespoke lifts, but lifts of any kind in all sorts of environments.

Lambeth Palace Rd, London

This project involved the major refurbishment of 8 lifts; a 6 Car Group of Gearless passenger lifts and 2 Simplex Geared Goods Lifts.

The major part of the project consisted of the installation of “Thyssen” Winding Units and “Kollmorgan” Control Panels.

The Project was sponsored by MACE MACRO LTD, on behalf of the client ERNST & YOUNG, with NORLAND MANAGED SERVICES as Principle Contractor and J.BASHFORD & ASSOCIATES as Lift Consultants.

This project was all the more challenging as we had to keep all the original lifts in operation so as to keep the disruption to the building occupants to a minimum. With that in mind it was all the more pleasing to hear that upon the successful completion of such a major project, that we were congratulated by both Mr Roy Booth of NORLAND MANAGED SERVICES and Mr Mark Bryan of J.BASHFORD & ASSOCIATES on a project well done.

The project involved the major refurbishment of five lifts; a group of three gearless passenger lifts and two simplex geared scenic lifts.

ILE were the suppliers of the new winding units and controllers; they also provided GAL conversion kits for adaptation to the original Express Lift Company door equipment. The fact that Royal & Sun Alliance had their own Lift Engineering staff to oversee the project meant that our design solutions and standard of workmanship were constantly being monitored.

This new build Prestige Apartment Block project in the heart of London’s Docklands required four ‘high spec’ MRL Passenger Lifts to service the 22 floor building.

The cross-corner firefighting lift with adjacent car entrances was designed in conjunction with Global Lift Equipment, who supplied the majority of the equipment. The fact that there was no Consultants Specification meant that the Acre/Global partnership needed to give guidance and direction to the Client; particularly when it came to the design and finishes for the all important lift car.

Brian Fitzpatrick of Fitzpatrick Construction commented: “Acre Lifts are an extremely user-friendly company, adaptable to changing site circumstances and always willing to help”.

Wandsworth Borough Council.

We have maintained the lifts for this borough for approximately five years. The original contract was for a three year period and if the client was happy with the three years service provided there was the possibility of an extenstion of two years on the contract. We are pleased to confirm that we remained in the contract for the full five years. Towards the end of the five year contract we successfully re-tendered for the contract, making Acre Lifts the successful incumbent Contractor for the past ten years. During our time working with TLBWC we have helped reduce their lift failures by 25/30% in that time.

Acre Lifts would like to say goodbye to two long standing members of staff firstly Mrs. Patricia Rowe.

Pat, as she was known to us all, started working for Acre Lifts in 1999 in the administrative department and was very popular with not only all the office staff but engineers as well.

In 2009 she was rewarded for her ten years of service when she was presented with a gold watch. We all wish Pat well in her retirement.

We also say fair well to Joeseph Brehme also retired earlier this year.

Joe started in the trade in 1967 at the tender age of 21 is leaving us due to retirement.

Joe will be sorely missed by all those in the construction department. No one who has been through an apprenticeship under Joe will forget some of the old school tutoring in the art of going to fetch the ‘Sky hook’ or ‘left handed screwdriver’.

And finally to Miss Francesca Turner who joined us in 2007 as a Construction Co-ordinator.

During her 4 years with Acre Lifts Ltd she progressed massively, taking on many tasks and roles within the company whilst also providing support to managers and directors alike.

She has sadly had to leave to pursue a lifelong dream, and although she will be missed, we wish her all the best in the future.
